Dylan Cease's painting hobby might be turning into something much bigger for the Blue Jays ace.
Cease has been one of the best pitchers in the American League this season, but his real spare-time obsession is painting.
Since signing a seven-year, $210 million deal with Toronto last offseason, he's completed five Toronto-themed pieces.
Four have gone up on his Instagram. The fifth went straight to manager John Schneider, who reportedly keeps it hanging in his Rogers Centre office.
Fans have been asking for a Cease exhibition at the Art Gallery of Ontario for a while now. This week, that request started looking real.
The AGO posted an image Wednesday of a neatly folded stack of black clothing on a wooden crate, with a baseball sitting on top.
The clothing reads "AGO X," which paired with the baseball left Blue Jays fans connecting dots immediately.
What Cease's own reaction might be hinting at
The post came captioned simply: "Mark your calendars. 08.25.26."
Cease reshared the AGO's photo to his own Instagram story, adding nothing but a thinking-face emoji.
That's not a denial. It's also not a confirmation. It's exactly the kind of tease that gets an entire fan base speculating.
Painting is just one item on a long list of hobbies for Cease, who's also an avid disc golfer with his own merchandise line and course in Florida.
The AGO ranks among the 10 biggest art galleries in North America, which makes it a fitting stage if this really is what fans think it is.
His most recent piece sold at auction for $16,000, with proceeds going to the Jays Care Foundation.
Nothing beyond the date has been confirmed. Blue Jays fans just have to wait until Aug. 25 to find out what's actually coming.
