The Blue Jays have an agreement in place with top 2028 prospect Angel Montas, reports say.

The International Signing Period doesn't open until January, but deals for future classes get worked out well ahead of time.

According to insider Mike Rodriguez, Montas is expected to sign with Toronto for a $5.5 million bonus in January 2028.

The third baseman carries big grades. Rodriguez describes him as a 60-plus arm, 60-plus contact, 70-plus power, and 50-plus defense prospect.

Perfect Game lists him as a 15-year-old, 6-foot-2 third baseman out of Santo Domingo.

An earlier scouting profile praised his bat speed and swing rhythm, calling him "incredibly talented" even at 13 years old.

That kind of bonus for an international amateur is significant, but the power grade alone explains why Toronto moved on it early.

Toronto also locks up a second big-money prospect

The Blue Jays didn't stop there. They've also agreed to a deal with outfielder Junior Fortunato for $3.2 million, set for January 2027.

Rodriguez calls Fortunato a five-tool player with a 60-plus arm and 60-plus power.

Two premium international signings in one stretch says something about how aggressively Toronto is restocking its farm system.

None of that helped Wednesday night, though. The Blue Jays fell to the Rays after Jesus Sanchez had two misplays in the outfield that led to multiple runs.

"Good teams take advantage of mistakes, and that's what they did today," manager John Schneider said after the loss.

"Missed opportunity, sure. You want to play clean, you want to play tight. But give them credit for taking advantage of mistakes," Schneider added.

Toronto is now 62-66, sitting one game back of a wild-card spot.

The future is getting brighter in the farm system. The present still has to survive nights like this one.
